Support for Social, Emotional and Mental Wellbeing
Sonal S. Raja - Clinical Psychologist, Bangalore
I have been working in the area of child well-being for past twenty years.
My training is in Clinical Psychology, from USA, and in special education, from Bangalore. I have worked in settings like:
· International Schools in Bangalore and NCR,
· Rural government schools with Azim Premji Foundation
· Apollo Hospitals, &
· Children psychiatric hospital in USA
-Social and emotional learning with Gifted and Talented children
- And as an independent consultant
I work on behavioural, academic and emotional issues of children, which is closest to my heart. I do workshops on study skills, adolescent issues and life skills, I also run group sessions for children with common behavioural or emotional concerns to help them find solutions to their concerns.
As a special educator, I work with children with special needs. I do assessment and diagnosis of developmental disorders, learning difficulties, behavioural difficulties a and social-emotional challenges.
I have worked extensively with children and young adults, who experience unmanageable anxiety and extreme depression. I conduct teacher and parent sessions/workshops to enable them to create a positive environment and support learning and prevent or arrest the emotional difficulties that children face.
Currently,I consult with CBSE/ICSE/IB/IGCSE schools in Bangalore, to support the student's social, emotional and academic needs. I supervise the counselling and special education teams.
In my capacity as a psychotherapist, I work intensively with the adults, as parents, and as individuals, to help them deal with multi-fold issues of household, parenting, relationships and work-life balance. In this process, I help them to make psychologically informed choices.
Every child has the potential to develop further from where she stands. By giving the right exposure, guidance and nurturing environment, each child can
he helped to develop these skills. For most parents and teachers, academics take the priority at this stage.
Since learning is an intensely social process, academic achievement is not only about task or work orientation
but also about how the child can manage his/her own emotions, and how she is engaging with peers, teacher, coaches and parental expectations. Thus, to
help children succeed in any one area, we cannot exclude their skills in other areas.
Bodhiview is a concept of understanding a child in 360x360 degrees.
Why 360 x360? - because it is not only knowing all the different dimensions of a child but also about looking at it from school, home, and individual perspectives.
It gives inputs to parents to understand their child holistically and initiate activities and opportunities to help their child grow as a well adjusted individual, doing his/her best.
Bodhiview for Children
Support for academic, social and emotional concerns
The developing child is a bundle of developing skills that guide her/him to navigate the environments of school, home and the society, that could be challenging to many. It is well established through scientific research that it is the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) skills that determine the overall mental well-being of the child.
The Social and Emotional skills are "Skills to recognise and manage emotions, develop care and concern for others, make responsible decisions, establish positive relationships, and handle challenging situations effectively"
Bodhiview strives to understand these skills in children that makes every child unique and to guide the ecosystem around the child to nurture by guidance, building supportive environment, and eco-systems, and sensitising others around them.
Bodhiview for Parents/ Adults
Support for healthy child care and self care practices
Parenting is about walking the tight rope, balancing between being a nurturing parent and a positive adult. Research shows how early experiences, right from prenatal and birth experiences to school and home environments, have a lasting impact on how individuals behave as adults at work, home and as parents. Coping with stress of work, home, relationships and society can impact your parenting and personal well-being. This in turn might have an effect on your child or children in your care.
Bodhiview for adults is about understanding how self care and personal and social well-being of an individual is a non-negotiable requirement of today's world, equipping them to build it for themselves and others.

Personal and Social well-being
For individuals, who spend 10-12 waking hours at work, a lot is left as low priority and definitely psychological well-being comes the last. By engaging with corporate work-places, it gives employees an opportunity to address their or their child's well-being without losing hours at a hospital or clinic for an appointment.
There are ongoing sessions that meet the requirements of the employees, either as individuals or as parents to equip them with skills to respond to challenges.
